Shareholders

The Company's shareholders are Regione Autonoma della Sardegna (Sardinian Regional Government) (96%) and ENEA (Italian National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development)(4%). ENEL and ENI ceased to be shareholders in 1999.

Origin

Sotacarbo - Società Tecnologie Avanzate Low Carbon S.p.A. - was established on 2 April 1987, in pursuance of Article 5 of Law 351/85 ‘Norme per la riattivazione del bacino carbonifero del Sulcis’ (Rules for the reactivation of the Sulcis coal basin), to develop innovative and advanced technologies in the use of coal.

Regione Autonoma della Sardegna (RAS)

Regione Autonoma della Sardegna is one of the five Italian regions to which Article 116 of the Constitution recognizes special conditions of autonomy. Regione Autonoma della Sardegna, through the Department of Planning and Budget, has held 96% of Sotacarbo’s shares since June 2021.

ENEA

ENEA is the National Agency for New Technologies, Energy and Sustainable Economic Development. Defined as a ‘public law body aimed at research and technological innovation, as well as to provide advanced services to enterprises, public administration and citizens in the fields of energy, environment and sustainable economic development’ (Law 221/2015). Since June 2021, ENEA has held a 4% share in Sotacarbo.
